Fixation on Histology

NSH Career Day Recognized by Mayor

Every year at NSH’s Symposium/Convention, our volunteers prepare an event called Career Day, which introduces local students to the histology laboratory. This year’s students are Juniors and Seniors, from several St. Louis area schools, including KIPP St. Louis, Clyde C Miller Academy, and Hazelwood.

Students were given background information about the histology profession, and then went through 5 main stations, performing grossing, embedding, microtomy, cover slipping and staining, and ending at microscope observation.

This year, the Deputy Mayor of St. Louis was able to attend the event, to present NSH with a proclamation, recognizing September 24, 2018 as a day dedicated to histology.
