Fixation on Histology

Happiness, AI, Ocular Histology…Oh My!

NSH LogoNSH is excited to continue its tradition of bringing you the leading voices of histology with three incredible general sessions and three amazing speakers – all happening at the 2022 NSH Convention…this week!

Our first general session is  What is AI for Digital Pathology?, being presented by Anindita Sarkar, PhD.  For the last five years NSH has been increasing its offerings within the space of Artificial Intelligence (AI).  In this session, Dr. Anindita Sarkar explains current digital pathology use-cases such as tumor detection, grading, and subtyping. Further, the talk will demystify the underlying AI principles in advanced WSI analysis such as mutation prediction, survival prediction, multiplexing, spatial transcriptomics, and virtual staining.   Beef up your AI knowledge by checking out this free podcast featuring NSH member David Krull.  Listen here!

Dr. Gerelyn A. Henry is the extremely credentialed and respected Founder and CEO of Transcendent Pathology.  She will be giving her talk, Leading to Happiness in Pathology at the CFA Culling Memorial Lecture on Monday, October 17.  In her talk she’ll discuss leadership as an enigmatic field of thought and action that is difficult to define, describe, and teach, yet is unmistakable in its manifestation within the adroit individual who displays its most inherent traits. By examining the roles of applied leadership principles on inner work life, triangulated working relationships, and the hierarchy of basic human needs, pathology and histology professionals can learn how they can affect the conditions leading to happiness in others. Learning to harness the power of the four major leadership intelligences will help to strengthen leadership characteristics in professionals, leading to improved health and happiness of employees, customers, and ultimately, patients.

Our third can’t miss session is Morphological Artifact Free Solutions for Ocular Histology, presented by Dr. Yongfu Wang. Dr. Wang is currently on the Journal of Histotechnology editorial board and this session is complimentary to the 45th anniversary special issue this December, the Journal will feature manuscripts, including Dr. Wang's, that address scientific and technical advancements in the ocular histology field.  This general session will provide insight if you struggle to achieve mouse eyeball preparation free of distortion such as shrinking and eyeball wall denting during fixation and paraffin processing, or if you have difficulty keeping ocular sections on glass slides while performing immunohistochemistry (IHC) or in situ hybridization (ISH) assays.

Not going to be in Reno? Don't miss these great sessions - register for a virtual pass today!
