Fixation on Histology

This Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained section of a fetal foot, obtained from another products-of-conception specimen, was cut on a Sakura Accu-cut SRM and stained on a Sakura Tissue Tek Prisma. H&E are the primary stains in histopathology, used to evaluate tissue morphology, nuclear and cytoplasmic features.

H&E or “routine” sections are the first tissue sections examined by pathologists in the diagnostic process prior to the application of histochemical stains if needed. H&E stains are applied to tissue biopsies as well as surgical resection specimens, and are also used in intraoperative consultations to make a diagnosis at frozen section.
