Histologic Technician and Histotechnologist Programs:

The School of Histologic Technicians (HT) is a 7 month laboratory NAACLS-accredited certificate program working with tissues from operating rooms, doctors' offices and autopsy. During the 7 am - 3:30 pm program, Monday through Friday, students learn the theory and technical skills in the Histology laboratory, related to infections, cancer and tissue abnormalities.

  • Tuition: either pay affiliated community college for 12-15 credits, or if already have AA/AS degree then pay Program $2500
  • Award: Certificate of completion

The School of Histotechnologists (HTL) is an 11.5 month NAACLS-accredited certificate laboratory program working with tissues from operating rooms, doctor's offices and autopsy. During the 7 am - 3:30 pm program, Monday through Friday, students learn the theory and technical skills for the Histology laboratory, Muscle enzyme histochemistry, Immunohistochemistry, Electron microscopy, and Molecular pathology.

  • Tuition: either pay affiliated University for 24-28 credits, or if already have BA/BS degree then pay program $5000
  • Award: Certificate of completion
  • In addition, students learn management and education methodology principles, problem-solving and troubleshooting expertise, as well as research skills

Histotechnician Program

This is a two-year Histotechnician program offering an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree.
Cost: The typical cost of the program for a full-time student is the current CCRI tuition for five semesters, books, lab coats, uniforms and travel expenses to the clinical sites. The total cost of a two-year program is approximately $5000.
CCRI accepts approximately 15 students into the Histotechnician Program each May. If students have prior college education or clinical experience, they can gain advanced placement into the program.

Histologic Technician Program AAS

The Program culminates into an Associate Degree of Applied Science. The Program offers a full-time track that can be completed in two years and a part-time track that will take three years to complete. A new class starts each fall semester. The student attends lectures and participates in student lab activities at the Coleman College of Health Sciences. Further hands-on knowledge is gained during clinical experiences in Texas Medical Center institutions and various other hospitals and clinics throughout the area. Classes conducted at these locations can begin as early as 7:00 a.m. The student is responsible for transportation to and from these locations and for parking fees.

After graduation, the student is eligible to take a national certification exam and gain the title of Histologic Technician.

BS HTL 12 Month Program - Prerequisites for 1 year program student must meet the Texas Core curriculum prerequisites and have earned 90 SCH inclusive to 27 SCH combined course work in biology & chemistry

BS HTL 24 Month Program - Prerequisites for 2 year program student must meet the Texas Core curriculum prerequisites and have earned 60 SCH inclusive of 17 SCH combined course work in biology & chemistry.
