HPD - March 10, 2012
They say that 3rd time is a charm, so with this being the 3rd Annual Histotechnology Professionals Day, let’s really push ourselves to the limit.
This year Histotechnology Professionals Day falls on a Saturday, but that should not prevent you from celebrating the profession every day that week. NSH is proud of the profession so we challenge all our members to get out there and spread the word about how important Histotechnology is!
We will also have a free teleconference for all members on March 7th, 2012 to honor the day. The title of the teleconference will be: “Person Behind the Specimen” presented by Debra Flynn. Pre-registration will be available soon.
Since we know how talented and creative our Histotechs are we have come up with 2 new contests that we hope everyone takes the opportunity to participate in.
The NSH Office would like to give a shout out to all of our Histo Members: "Happy Histotechnology Professionals Day! We appreciate everything you do!"

RESOURCES
Promotional Planning Guide: a toolkit to help plan a celebration and promote the profession
Proclamation: One of the most important things that the organization can do to build awareness for the Histology Profession is to receive official recognition from your local elected official, mayor and/or governor. A proclamation and maybe a key to the city may be secured. This may be accompanied by a photo opportunity. Even if your organization received a proclamation last year, follow up again this year.
Letter to Government Officials and Sample Proclamation
Elevator Speech: Every professional should have a short synoptic speech called an “elevator speech”. The speech should be a 15-30 second description of what they do as a professional. This speech is intended to tell listeners enough to make them want to learn more. It can be used in an elevator when someone asks “What is a Histotechnologist”? or when you have an opportunity to talk about your profession to the PTA, to your local elected officials, students or anyone who shows interest. Your hope is to create an opportunity for an in-depth discussion. You will raise awareness and visibility of the profession.
CONTESTS
1. THE NSH CHALLENGE
Do you love your job and like to have fun? Do you have a creative mind? Sports teams all over make their own Jingles, Songs and Video’s. So why not have one about Histotechnology. Find a way to make Histotechnology something that rolls off of everyone’s tongue by putting together a jingle, theme song or video. Think outside the box, like the commercials competing for the Superbowl halftime spots. Make it fun and viral worthy! Winner will be selected by a special HPD team.
The winner will be the one with the catchiest advertising. It can be a jingle, song, video, game, poster, catch phrase marketing piece or anything you can think of to make everyone want to know what Histotechnology is.
Winners will receive:
1st Place: $1000 Scholarship towards any NSH event or items offered by NSH.
