2026 NSH Awards 

With the support of our industry partners, NSH invites you to nominate a histotechnologist who exemplifies excellence in the field. Help recognize their dedication, inspire their passion, and elevate their professional journey by submitting a nomination today!

Before applying, please review the specific requirements for each award. Previous recipients are not eligible for the same award but may apply for other awards or scholarships.


Histotechnologist of the Year

Recognition

This award will be given annually to an individual who best exemplifies the qualities of dedication, service, and involvement with the profession of histotechnology and to NSH.

  • The recipient is recognized during a General Session at the 2026 NSH Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.
  • The recipient receives a plaque and $1,000.

Criteria/Nominee Requirements

  • Must be an NSH Member for a minimum of 5 years
  • Two letters of recommendation which support why the nominee is deserving of the award
  • Nominee CV/Resume
  • Must be nominated by another person using the nomination form (no self nominations)


Jules Elias Excellence in Immunohistochemistry 

Recognition

This award will be presented to an NSH member who is currently utilizing and excelling in immunohistochemistry in a clinical or research setting. The purpose of this award is acknowledge their work in the field and support the nominee or their institution in the study techniques and methods presently utilized in the nominee’s institution, or support the study of new IHC techniques under consideration for adoption in the nominee’s laboratory, or support continuing education

  • The recipient is recognized during a General Session at the 2026 NSH Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.
  • The recipient receives a plaque and $1,000.

Criteria/Nominee Requirements

  • Must be a current NSH Member
  • One letter of recommendation highlighting the individual's commitment to IHC excellence in the lab through application or education
  • Nominee CV/Resume
  • QIHC Certification preferred
  • Self Nomination permitted

Excellence Award in Histology Lab Management

Recognition

This award will be given to an experienced or recently promoted manager, assistant manager, or supervisor who is expected to provide management leadership within their current role. The individual nominated should exemplify the qualities of a dedicated leader in communication, interpersonal skills, demonstrate and encourage flexibility, adaptiveness, supportiveness, compassion, understanding, work-life balance, and well-being.

  • The recipient is recognized during a General Session at the 2026 NSH Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.
  • The recipient receives a plaque and $1,000.

Criteria/Nominee Requirements

  • Must be a current NSH Member 
  • Must have 2 years experience in a management role
  • One letter of recommendation highlighting the how the  individual demonstrates excellence in their management role listing specific examples
  • Nominee CV/Resume
  • Must be nominated by another person using the nomination form (no self nominations)



Excellence in Whole Slide Scanning and Image Analysis

Recognition

This award will be presented to an individual who shows dedication and excellence in whole slide imaging and/or image analysis. The purpose of this award is to honor those who have improved the histology process for whole slide imaging and image analysis. This includes those who have improved the slide scanning process, developed, or enhanced image analysis methods within their organization, developed innovative validations for whole slide imaging procedures to align with the recommendation of CAP, or actively contributed to educating others on various aspects of the digital pathology process.

  • The recipient is recognized during a General Session at the 2026 NSH Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.
  • The recipient receives a plaque and $1,000.

Criteria/Nominee Requirements

  • Must be a current NSH Member
  • One letter of recommendation which highlights the individual's excellence in digital pathology or image analysis providing specific examples
  • Nominee CV/Resume
  • Self Nomination permitted


Journal of Histotechnology Collaborative Research Award

Recognition

This scholarship encourages histotechnologists to engage in collaborative research. It aims to foster partnerships across organizations, promote innovative experiments, and support the publication of new findings in the Journal of Histotechnology. This award celebrates collaboration and innovation, recognizing teamwork’s vital role in advancing histotechnology. By fostering networking and research, it supports the next generation of leaders in the field.

  • The recipient is recognized during a General Session at the 2026 NSH Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.
  • The recipient is awarded $500.

Criteria/Applicant Requirements

  • Must be a current NSH Member
  • Provide a reflective essay (1,000 words max) detailing your experience collaborating on histotechnology research, including challenges, growth, and outcomes
  • Provide a title and abstract of your collaborative research, published, accepted, or in progress for submission to JOH
