NSH is once again excited to offer a variety of scholarship opportunities. Check out all the scholarships below. 

Student Scholarships

Student Scholarships are for those enrolled in a NAACLS approved histology program. Scholarship funds are provided to support the educational endeavors of aspiring Histotechnologists.

Requirements:

  • Must be a current NSH Student Member
  • One letter of recommendation
  • CV/Resume
Recipients receives a certificate and $500.


Professional Scholarships

Professional scholarships are for individuals pursuing education and knowledge within the profession of histotechnology. The scholarship can be used to purchase books, education, or other items that will help the individual advance in their career. 
Requirements:
  • Must be a current NSH Member
  • One letter of recommendation
  • CV/Resume
Recipients receives a certificate and $1,000.

Immunohistochemistry Education Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to support an individual who is familiar with and performing IHC techniques to advance their education or members of their lab in IHC techniques, used towards immunohistochemistry research, or to improve/enhance equipment in their lab.

Requirements:

  • Must be a NSH member for a minimum of 2 consecutive years
  • Letter of intent, which includes how the applicant plans to use the funds
  • One letter of recommendation that outlines the applicant's experience and knowledge in IHC
  • CV/Resume

Recipient receives a plaque and $1,000.

Peggy Wenk Histology Program Scholarship

This award is given to an HT, or HTL NAACLS approved program in honor of Peggy Wenk, a true champion of the field of histology and a legend with a passion for teaching. Funds may be used to further educational opportunities for students using NSH Educational Events, Webinars, Textbooks, Reagents for hands-on instruction, guest speakers, and poster development.

Requirements:

  • Program Director or Education Coordinator must be a NSH member for a minimum of 2 consecutive years
  • A one-page narrative that outlines the planned utilization for the funds
  • Must submit at least two letters of recommendation in support of the program
  • Program Director or Education Coordinator's CV/Resume

    Recipient receives a plaque and $5,000.

    Helping Hand Outreach Scholarship

    The purpose of this award is to support individuals/organizations that provide histology educational opportunities or improvements to underserved institutions/groups/countries. Any worthy project, new or ongoing, that elevates the educational opportunity of those working in the histotechnology community will be considered. Monies may be used to support educational outreach efforts, increase the quality and expertise of educational opportunities for student groups with limited or deteriorated access to educational facilities and educators, promote the study of histology, provide needed educational supplies or equipment or support travel of underserved hisotechs to labs outside their country to be trained or learn new techniques. 

    Requirements:

    • Must be a NSH member for a minimum of 2 consecutive years
    • One letter of recommendation that outlines the applicant's commitment to the profession
    • A project narrative and timeline of how the monies will be used
    • CV/Resume

    Recipient receives a plaque and $3,000.

    Legislative Leadership Scholarship

    This scholarship will be awarded to new professionals to attend the ASCLS Legislative Symposium. While attending, the recipients will participate in sessions presented by ASCLS to learn about the relevant issues facing the laboratory profession. Attendees will also meet with their local representatives to present information on these topics. The intent of the scholarship is to educate and engage new professionals in the future of the histology profession.


    The scholarship includes travel expenses up to $500, hotel, as well as per diem meals. Recipients will collaborate post-Symposium to write a brief recap of the event for publication in NSH In Action and Fixation on Histology.



    Requirements:

      • Must be a current NSH member 
      • Must be currently employed in any environment within the histology profession
      • Must have an interest in laboratory regulations, legislation, and the future of the profession
      • Attend the Legislative Symposium, which will take place October 23-24, 2023, in Alexandria, VA
      • A one-page narrative that details your interest in attending the Legislative Leadership Symposium
      • CV/Resume

    New! Convention Travel Scholarship

    These scholarships are intended to provide those in histology the opportunity to attend the NSH Convention to advance their education and knowledge in the field for those may not have the funds to do so. The scholarship can be used to cover costs of travel, hotel and food to attend the convention.

    The scholarship includes complimentary registration to the 2023 NSH Convention.

    • Must be a current NSH member 
    • Letter from Department Chair or Supervisor that supports financial need for the scholarship
    • Letter of intent that includes why attending the convention is important to you.

    Recipients receives a certificate and $750.


    New! Convention Poster Travel Scholarship

    These scholarships are intended to provide those in histology the opportunity to attend and present their research in the form of a poster presentation at the NSH Convention. The scholarship can be used to cover costs of travel, hotel and food to attend the convention.

    The scholarship includes complimentary registration to the 2023 NSH Convention.


    Requirements:

    • Must be a current member
    • Letter from Department Chair or Supervisor that supports financial need for the scholarship
    • Letter of intent that includes why attending the convention is important to you and the topic you plan to present on
    • Must submit a poster presentation for the NSH Convention
    • CV/Resume

    Recipients receives a certificate and $750.

    Submission Requirements

    • Please be sure to read the specific requirements for each scholarship
    • Recipients of past awards/scholarships are not eligible for the same award/scholarship again. They are eligible for other awards/scholarships
