CAP/NSH Histotechnology Committee
The CAP/NSH Histotechnology committee has finalized three new products that will become available in the CAP’s 2018 Surveys catalog. The new programs will include challenges for Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinomas IHC (HQNSC), Gene Mismatch Repair IHC (HQMMR), and an additional Specialty Series for Gynecologic Specimens (HQBX4).
The HQBX4 survey product is similar to the Specialty Series HQBX for biopsy specimens but will focus exclusively on gynecologic specimens. Laboratories will submit H&E slides from cervical, endometrial, cone/LEEP, and vaginal biopsies.
The HQMMR product will require the participant to submit a series of five slides that include one H&E and the Mismatch Repair IHC panel consisting of MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2. Participants will submit a colon adenocarcinoma case for the 2018A challenge and an endometrial adenocarcinoma case for the 2018B challenge.
The HQNSC survey will require two H&E and three IHC on each of the two challenges. The 2018A challenges will require an H&E, TTF-1 and Napsin-A on a lung adenocarcinoma case, with the second portion of the 2018A challenge requiring an H&E and IHC ALK on a positive lung adenocarcinoma case. The 2018B challenge will require an H&E, p40/p63 and CK5/6 on a lung squamous cell carcinoma case, with the second portion of the 2018B challenge requiring H&E and PD-L1 on a positive lung squamous cell carcinoma case.
An expert panel of trained pathologists and histotechnologists will evaluate the stained slides, using uniform grading criteria. The participants will receive a written evaluation specific to their laboratory and a participant summary report.
