National Society for Histotechnology Announces Cancellation of Face-to-Face 2020 Annual Symposium/Convention in Reno, NV Due to COVID-19
Ellicott City, MD – The National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) announced today it will cancel its in-person 2020 Annual Symposium/Convention, scheduled for October 16 – 21, 2020, in Reno, NV due to public health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
After careful discussion on all aspects of our Annual Symposium/Convention with our colleagues at the Reno Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Silver Legacy Hotel, we made the difficult decision to move our in-person Reno meeting to October 2022. Our goal is to provide a quality experience at an outstanding location, which will not be possible this year. Although we will not be able to gather this year in person, we are excited to offer an entirely Virtual Annual Symposium/Convention that will take place on October 13-15, 2020.
The virtual format of this year’s Symposium/Convention will provide access to both live and on-demand education, giving attendees more CEU earning opportunities than ever before. Also, this year’s Virtual Symposium/Convention will include a virtual tradeshow, digital poster gallery, and networking events. Lastly, the Society will hold a virtual House of Delegates, and more information will be sent to NSH members within the week.
The NSH Board of Directors has maintained regular contact with NSH staff, our legal counsel, and our partners in Reno, NV. We have actively monitored the timing of federal and State of Nevada plans to ease travel restrictions, social distancing guidelines on large gatherings, and the ever-changing virus containment efforts. Additionally, the Society has been conducting research on how the pandemic is affecting histology lab operations and employee travel. We have learned that restrictions are in place for a significant number of respondents, which impacts their ability to attend the in-person Annual Symposium/Convention.
We are energized and excited to provide histology professionals with a dynamic virtual learning experience to fit every member’s schedule and budget.
