Date:
23 Feb 2011

Presented by Ada Feldman, MS, HT(ASCP)HTL and Dee Wolfe, AA, HT(ASCP), Anatech Ltd., Battle Creek, MI

Hematoxylin is recognized as the standard nuclear stain in anatomical pathology. However, its appearance can be purplish or black dependent upon the hematoxylin formulation. This presentation will review the routine nuclear stains (mordant hematoxylins) and the dyes that are used in special stains or frozen section procedures (e.g., Nuclear fast red, Brazilin, Toluidine blue and Methylene blue).
