NSH Teleconference: Immunofluorescence: How to Make Your Skin Glow in the Dark

Date:
23 May 2012

Presented by: Patty Molner , BS, MT(ASCP), CG(ASCP), Beaumont Health Systems, Royal Oak, MI

Immunofluorescence (IF) is an example of Immunohistochemistry, using antibodies linked to fluorescent dyes, rather than enzymes, to detect an antigen. Visualization of this binding on frozen section skin biopsies can provide important diagnostic and prognostic information for the patient. This teleconference will review the histology of skin, autoimmune skin diseases, and expected IF staining results of these diseases. IF staining techniques and troubleshooting will also be covered.
