NSH Teleconference: The Effect of Pre-Analytical Factors on IHC Quality and The Optimization of Antibodies for Formalin Fixed Parafin Embedded Tissue

Date:
27 Apr 2011

Presented by Mark Rees, PhD, Leica-Microsystems, Banockburn, IL

Standardization within histopathology starts outside of the current laboratory environment. The term “pre-analytic” in essence refers to any process that has an impact on human tissue from the instant it leaves the body until a histological staining procedure is initiated. The pre-analytical stages of histopathology very much depend on the type of specimen in question and the subsequent analysis required. This teleconference will describe the key pre-analytical stages that have a direct influence on standardization in histopathology These processes during the pre-analytic phase can ultimately effect the quality of the Immunohistochemistry during the analytic phase. The optimization of antibodies (concentrates or pre-dilutes) will be discussed, and some tips about troubleshooting will be ofference.
