Meeting Description:

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is used routinely in research labs and hospitals to help study, diagnose, and treat disease, but how does it work? In this workshop, participants will learn how the individual steps of an IHC protocol work on a molecular level to result in a stain. After learning about each of these steps, common errors and troubleshooting scenarios will be examined closely to give each participant the knowledge to troubleshoot common IHC issues in their own lab. The workshop will also look at the differences between commercially available antibodies, tissue pretreatments, and detection kits.  In particular, the workshop will look at the different procedure considerations of each variant, how they work, and the benefits and disadvantages of each type. Finally, we will look at the process of validating a new antibody for quality and reproducibility.
